BH Family Room | Creating a Comfortable yet Chic Design

Good morning! We had a full weekend of working on the BH Family Room and will have a progress post for you soon. Today, I wanted to share how we are creating a comfortable yet chic design and a peek at what you will see in this space.

As I’ve shared, this space is going to be the hub for entertaining. It’s going to be where we watch movies, play games, the place the boys have their friends over– basically, it is the “dude space”. But, just because it’s going to be the dude space, doesn’t mean it can’t be chic and comfortable at the same time. And, hey…I might want to hang down there too 😉 ;)…

Bringing in the chic

The walls will be a showstopper! I can’t share all the details yet because it’s a bit of a secret, but some of the walls will feature a custom wall design similar to one in the moodboard above.

The art is being selected by the Cadwallader boys from a collection I curated for them. They love cars, planes, movies and humor so we are going for black and white photography with that very chic burl wood framing.

The furniture will also be bringing the chic with the high quality craftsmanship of the Taylor Burke Home sofa, chairs, and coffee table.

Glam touches will also be executed in the decor.

Bringing in the comfort…

The flooring we selected is very warm and nice underfoot. Basements tend to have cold floors, but this NuCore flooring we are installing from Floor & Decor will banish the cold floors.

Again, the furniture from Taylor Burke Home, though chic, is also practical and very comfortable. The sofa is long in size and the fabric is amazing for family living. We are using a Crypton fabric on the sofa that is water-repellent and stain repellent.

We are also bringing in the cozy comfort by making the wood burning fireplace shine again. It will get a makeover and a custom wood stack built-in. Having a fire on cold night is the perfect way to cozy up a space.

Other details of comfort will be brought in including plush rugs…which I need to decide on quick!
